Prestige Multi Phone PAP 5044 DUO Mobile Phone Review

Prestige Multi Phone PAP 5044 DUO Mobile Phone Review

A small caveat is necessary here. This smartphone is not a flagship in the sense in which we are all used to perceive-just that it does not fly into space-but rather the captain of the Prestigio smartphone team, which belong to the middle price segment. To occupy this niche, in my opinion, was a good decision, as life shows such smartphones are popular.

You will find out how correct the Multi Phone 5044 DUO turned out to be in our review.

Design and first impressions

I'll start with the color. It was decided that the smartphone will be released only in black – the decision is correct, I support it with both hands, as everything looks stylish. 5” is not a joke, so keeping the elegance is not an easy task, and the black color just hides the dimensions. A metal-cut framing frame adds solidity and confidence to the overall look.

The Multi Phone 5044 DUO is plastic, but everything is designed in such a way that you can easily be deceived. The back cover is matte and has a metal-like texture. At certain angles, fingerprints are visible and very good.

It is worth noting the cool accessory that comes with the package. This is an additional back cover made on the principle of "Flip case" (or "Flip-cover") cases. This type of back cover cases became widespread after the announcement of the same Samsung Galaxy S4, but they could be purchased for an additional fee, and then immediately included, fans of stuffing their gadgets into cases will check it out.

I will honestly say that the assembly is good – the device does not creak, no backlash is observed. Given the current trends aimed at making smartphones easier, the Multi Phone 5044 DUO may seem a bit heavy. A solution with glossy and matte surfaces looks great.

Location of elements and their description

A huge plus of the smartphone is a 5-inch IPS HD screen. The resolution is 1280×720 pixels. The pixel density is 293 ppi. The display is not bad, you can't call it the best among all five-inch models, but in its price category it is the best.

Of course, there were some disadvantages. There is no special and sufficiently effective oleo phobic coating, and as a result, finger marks appear quickly, and they do not have much desire to be erased. Lovers of perfect cleanliness will have to carry a rag.

The readability of the screen in bright daylight is very good. In general, the screen is of good quality, and the colors have a natural saturation.

In the locked state, the smartphone display looks strict and stylish, and it is framed in a circle by a protruding edge. The front panel is completely covered with tempered glass. Under the display is the usual touch trio for Android smartphones - "context menu", "home " and"back".

Above the screen are sensors and a peephole of the front 2 MP camera.

The micro USB port and 3.5 mm headphone jack were placed on the top edge. In my opinion, the solution with the port is not the most convenient, since when charging is inserted, it is not so convenient to hold the smartphone in a horizontal orientation.

  • On the left side, you can only find the on/off button and at the very bottom, at the place of transition to the lower face, there is a slot for removing the cover.
  • On the bottom edge there is only a microphone, and on the left side there is a volume rocker.
  • On the back cover there is an 8 MP camera, flash, microphone, chrome-plated Prestigio logo and speaker.

Under the cover, the manufacturer has placed two connectors for regular SIM cards, a port for microSD memory cards (up to 32GB) and a battery with a capacity of 2000 mAh.

As for the dimensions, they are almost similar to the size of the Samsung Galaxy S4, the smartphone is only not much larger. The Prestigio MultiPhone 5044 DUO is the thinnest and lightest model in the Multi Phone series, with a thickness of 8.4 mm and a weight of just 130 grams.

Camera

An additional advantage for fans of mobile photography will be an 8 MP camera with LED flash and auto focus function.

The camera really shoots well for a smartphone for this price. You get good pictures in low light conditions, and glare and smudging are almost invisible in evening shots. The camera isn't outstanding, but the price pays off.

There is an HDR shooting mode, face recognition, panoramic shooting, and smile detection. By the way, in some modes you can take pictures just by touching the mode icon again, a trifle, but a pleasant one. At night, the images are noticeably grainy.

According to marketers of Prestigio: "A special LED flash was developed specifically for the Prestigio Multi Phone 5044 DUO and makes it possible to illuminate the area being shot with white light" - I hope you will appreciate the" special " flash and you will be happy.

  • As for the video, everything is simple - the MultiPhone 5044 records video in Full HD 1080p quality.

Simply put, the camera performs its function of remembering pleasant moments perfectly.

Sound

The sound of the external speaker of the 5044 does not impress the imagination — average quality, nothing more. The sound is clear, but not loud, dominated by high frequencies, sand boxed. When connecting not regular headphones, but good third-party ones – I almost didn't hear the difference in sound.

The volume of the spoken speaker is sufficient, and the quality of transmitted speech is at a high level.

Software

The Prestigio MultiPhone 5044 DUO comes pre-installed with Android Jelly Bean 4.2 in its purest and most pristine state. A bunch of processor and video accelerator copes well with their tasks, everything works clearly, quickly, without slowing down. There are enough pre-installed apps and necessary widgets.

I would like to note the coherence of the OS and hardware - from a single charge, the smartphone lasted almost a day, and calm, measured use was combined with almost full load - everything is actually quite good here.

In pure game mode, the smartphone lasted about three hours.

When you turn on MultiPhone 5044 DUO for the first time, the company's Prestigio Installer offers a choice of a pack of applications: Wonder Zoo, 250+ Solitaire Collect, Adobe Flash Player, Chess Chess Free, Currency Converter, Currencies, Facebook, a set of Google applications, as well as Skype, Stock Alert currency informer, SugarSync cloud storage client (up to 5 GB of cloud storage for free), Twitter and YouTube, in a word, the main programs are Also, for smartphones that will be sold in the CIS, a package of applications from Yandex is available.

Separately, I want to highlight the company's Prestigio eReader reader with a beautiful design for a classic bookshelf, and, of course, you can buy immortal creations in the built-in book store.

In order to be able to download and buy books, you need to register on the Prestigio website. The store offers more than 700 thousand books of various fees and free of charge in as many as 24 languages.

When you first launch the app, do not rush to hit your smartphone on the table, as it takes some time to load the covers and titles of books into the cache memory. eReader supports Collections, that is, when you first launch the app, it searches for books on your phone and recreates their structure. The user can create, delete and rename collections, as well as manage their contents (add / delete books). It is important that the supported formats are EPUB, PDF (EPUB, PDF with Adobe DRM), FB2, DOC, RTF, HTML, and TXT. Management, as in all self-respecting readers.

Another trump card up your sleeve is the Office Suite Pro 7, which is deservedly one of the best for working with documents on Android, by the way, this review was partially written using it. The full version is available out of the box.

I thought for a long time in which part to write that the prefix DUO in the name of the device means that it is dual-sim and decided to do it right here, since this part describes all the usefulness of the smartphone for us, users. It is worth noting that all direct competitors, except Lenovo K860, also have two SIM cards. Apparently, this is the main feature of this price segment. In fact, having two slots is very convenient, which makes the Multi Phone 5044 DUO an excellent workhorse for people who, due to their profession, have to talk a lot on the phone, and do not want to carry two phones with them.

Otherwise, everything is just like a classic Android smartphone.

Technical specifications

Given the class of the device, it has a fairly powerful hardware that copes with all the obligations imposed on it, namely a 4-core MTK6589 1.2 GHz Quard Core Cortex A7 with PowerVR SGX544 graphics.

1 GB of RAM, 4 GB of main memory, of which only 1.63 GB is available. Such memory is a price to pay for low cost with good performance. However, you should not be sad – there is a micro SD slot up to 32 GB and it will be difficult to use the device without a card.

This model does not have such a problem as overheating, it became warm on demanding games, but it did not turn into a frying pan like the LG Optimus 4X.

As I wrote above, I was very pleased with the balance of all the elements: if you want to use Multi Phone for work, if you want to relax and get into racing, or you can just watch your favorite movie in Full HD. Here the developers did their best, because in the test version there were serious problems with optimization. Now everything works as it should for any self-respecting smartphone.

  • I even noticed this trend – the smooth operation of even not expensive Android smartphones is approaching IOS.

Results:

As a result, Prestigio managed to make a worthy captain of its smartphone team. The competitive advantage is the price, which on average is about $ 340, optimized for work and, for me personally, a strict design, because it will not seem like a third ear in the hands of even a businessman.

Among the advantages, you can also note the build quality itself, which in this price segment is not the most obvious advantage and delivery package. One of the disadvantages is that there is too little internal memory, which simply forces you to buy a micro SD card. It will be difficult to use the device without a card. To be honest, during the time of using it, I always wanted to compare it with some HTC One or SGS IV, but then I caught myself, because the price gap is large, but if such thoughts arose, it means that Prestige is going the right way
